Directgov brings together the widest range of public service information and services online.
Produced by the Central Office of Information, Directgov provides information from across UK Government departments on topics ranging from travel safety and parental leave to special educational needs and local NHS services.
The site also brings together an increasing number of online government services to make your life easier - from booking a driving test and taxing your car to renewing your passport or applying for a student loan.
FSA
the UK’s financial watchdog set up by the government to regulate financial services and protect your rights. FSA sets the standards that financial services firms have to meet and the FSA will take action if they don’t. They also provide clear, impartial information, on the website and in publications, about financial products and services to help make money matters clearer for you.
Office of Fair Trading (OFT)
The Office of Fair Trading publishes a range of consumer advice for shopping in the high street, shopping from home and shopping over the internet.
It provides advice on specialist areas such as buying a computer, secondhand cars, extended warranties, pawnbroking, ticket agencies and internet auctions.
Trading Standards
Local authority trading standards also issue consumer advice. Many will provide individual advice for people living in their area. Their site also provides contact details for all trading standards departments around the UK.
